Hello
Hello, I’m Fliss, and welcome to Study Beyond English, the home of EchoGuide. This is a space built around one thing: speaking and delivery confidence.
Everything here exists to transform moments of anxiety into unshakeable foundations of confidence, for the people who have to find their voice when the pressure is loudest. Whether that is an exam answer, an interview, a presentation, an audition, or a difficult conversation, the moment before you speak can feel enormous. EchoGuide exists for that moment.
Study Beyond English is the home that EchoGuide grew from, and the place where I create the resources, and soon the courses, training, and lessons, that help people speak with steadiness and be heard. It is less about English lessons, and more about helping anyone deliver their words with confidence. Below, you’ll find more about my journey, the ideas that shape it, and the heart behind this work.
My Story 🌸📚🐾🖥️✒️☕🌸
I came to this work as a teacher and a registrar. After a decade teaching English, Drama, and Performing Arts, I kept noticing the same moment: the breath before someone speaks, when nerves can either take over or settle into focus. Helping people through that moment, on a stage, in an exam hall, or in a meeting, became the heart of what I do. I hold a degree and a master’s degree, Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE, with further training in safeguarding, SEND, and wellbeing.
I stepped away from the classroom to reclaim presence and connection, and to build something that reaches further than one room. Study Beyond English grew from a simple belief: confidence in speaking is not a gift some people are born with; it is something that can be rehearsed, supported, and built. EchoGuide is how I put that belief into people’s hands.
What Japan Taught Me
Time working as a part of Japanese culture changed how I see this work. I went looking for language and came home with a way of being.
There I found a word for something I had always felt but never named: omotenashi, the art of anticipating what another person needs and meeting it wholeheartedly, before they have to ask, and without expecting anything in return. It is the principle beneath everything I build. If I have the capacity to remove a barrier to someone’s confidence, I will not choose to build one.
Two more ideas have stayed with me. Ikigai, the quiet reason you get up in the morning, which for me is this. And kaizen, the belief that small, steady improvements matter more than grand gestures, which is exactly how confidence is built: one rehearsal, one steadier breath at a time.
Why I Do This
Anxiety around speaking touches almost everyone, and it rarely arrives at a convenient time. A pupil faces the weight of “one chance” in an exam. A professional dreads the presentation that could change their week. A parent wants to model calm for a nervous child. A performer stands in the wings, heart racing. The fear is the same shape, whatever the stage.
I have lived every side of that experience, as a teacher, as a parent, as a performer, and as someone who supports schools and professionals daily. I know how heavy that moment can feel, and I know how much changes when a person feels grounded, prepared, and genuinely able to deliver. Study Beyond English exists to offer that grounding, so the words come out the way they were meant to.
EchoGuide, and the Tools Around It
EchoGuide is an accessibility-first, real-time rehearsal tool. It supports you as you practise speaking aloud, with next-word highlighting, dyslexia-friendly features, gentle pacing feedback, and the ability to bring in your own script. There are no loose pages and no shuffling notes; you rehearse with your own words until they feel like yours. It is designed for anyone who finds speaking or performing anxiety-inducing, and it grows with you.
Around EchoGuide, a wider ecosystem has grown for the people who do this work every day:
-
EchoGuide Pro and the EchoGuide Pro Platform, our advanced speaking and communication support tools for schools, organisations, and professionals.
-
EchoGuide Events, bringing speaking confidence into live, shared spaces.
-
EchoGuide Theatre and EchoGuide Theatre Pro, supporting confident, anxiety-aware performance, with your own words on stage.
-
The Life Planner for Busy Professionals, built for the adults holding work, home, and the people they support, all at once.
These tools are built for busy professionals first: the parents, carers, teachers, and school staff who need clear communication support, and who want to help the people around them speak with confidence. Young people are welcome here too, and the help is built to stand beside the adults who guide them.
Why I Build Tools
Everything I make rests on one principle: if I have the capacity to remove a barrier, I will never choose to build one. AI has opened the door to tools that once took hours to plan and refine. I can now build them quickly, ethically, and with safeguarding at the centre, which means I can keep our core resources free and offer our professional tools at a fair price that keeps this work sustainable.
Today that means free resources and professional tools. My hope is that it soon means courses, training, and lessons in speaking and delivery confidence, so that support reaches even further. Where there is a cost, it is there to keep the lights on and the free resources flowing, and I will always communicate openly and always prioritise accessibility, fairness, and care.
Supporting Schools and Organisations, Face to Face and Beyond
I believe in the strategic, ethical use of AI, not as a shortcut, but as a support system. With stringent safeguarding, transparency, and professional judgement, AI can help teachers, school staff, and busy professionals reclaim time, reduce burnout, and personalise support for every person they work with.
But nothing replaces human connection. Study Beyond English is about being present: supporting communities face to face, offering clarity in complex situations, and building tools that honour the realities of working and learning life, not the fantasies of policy.
Who Is Flo?
Flo lives at the heart of Study Beyond English, not just as inspiration, but as a guiding presence. She appears throughout our videos and posts as an animated mentor: a coach and gentle cheerleader who supports everyone who arrives here, whether you are about to present, perform, or simply say the thing you have been dreading. Her character embodies warmth, clarity, and encouragement, offering steady guidance in the moment before you speak. Through her voice, her gestures, and her calm energy, Flo reminds us that finding your voice is emotional, relational, and deeply human. Her spirit shapes every tool we build and every story we tell.
What You’ll Find Here
Tools that steady you. Resources that prepare you. Stories that remind you that you are not the only one whose heart races before they speak. Everything here is created with one intention: to transform moments of anxiety into unshakeable foundations of confidence.
If there is a small way I can help, I will. If there is a tool that can lighten the load, I will build it. If there is a story that needs telling, I will tell it.
Study Beyond English isn’t about grades, and it isn’t only about English. It is about helping you speak, deliver, and be heard with confidence, whatever your stage.

Mission and Values
Our Mission
To make learning feel human again.
Study Beyond English exists to support pupils, families, teachers, and all school staff with resources that nurture confidence, calm, and connection. Through mindful English tools, narrative‑rich revision, and ethically guided AI, we aim to remove barriers — not create them — so every young person can feel grounded, supported, and seen.
We believe education should honour the whole person.
We believe support should be accessible to everyone.
And we believe that when the adults around a child feel equipped and cared for, the child thrives.
Our Values
1. Humanity First
Every resource begins with the person, not the grade.
We honour emotions, identity, wellbeing, and lived experience.
2. Sustainable Accessibility
Right now, all resources are free, because support should never be blocked by cost when families and school staff are already stretched.
If circumstances ever change, we will communicate openly and keep accessibility, fairness, and compassion at the centre of every decision.
3. Ethical, Safeguarded Use of AI
AI is a tool, not a replacement for human care.
We use it strategically, transparently, and with safeguarding at the heart.
4. Community Over Individualism
Education is a collective effort.
We support pupils, parents, carers, teachers, and all school staff.
5. Calm in the Chaos
Exam season brings pressure for everyone.
Our resources are designed to ground, soothe, and steady.
6. Creativity as Connection
English is storytelling, reflection, imagination, and self‑expression.
We use creativity to help young people reconnect with themselves.
7. Integrity in Every Detail
From safeguarding to design, we commit to clarity, honesty, and care.
8. Presence and Partnership
We believe in being there — face to face, in community, in conversation.
